Extremely durable construction
A rubber bumper around the top cover absorbs the force of impacts on the side of the system. The corners are 50 percent stronger to reduce damage when dropped at an angle. The frame is thicker to protect the LED panel. The hinges and brackets have been strengthened reinforced to last 50,000 cycles and withstand more force on the cover. Reinforced openings and reduced spacing between anchor keys prevent accidental damage from a bored child's exploring fingers. This is one tough machine.

ThinkVantage Active Protection System (APS)
On models with traditional hard drives, an accelerometer detects movement and stops the drive if a drop or similar event is detected. The hard drive uses rubber mounts (instead of rails) and the HDD connector is not rigidly connected to the circuit board, so the Connection absorbs shock and impact and protects against system damage.
